Four points to consider in the decorative design of faux stone coatings during the rainy season
When carrying out faux stone coating renovations during the rainy season, it resembles the humid southern winds, with excessive moisture. The temperature can significantly affect the actual results of the construction of real stone coatings on walls. To ensure the performance and quality of the wall's real stone coating, it is essential to understand the following four key points when encountering rainy weather during the construction process.
1. Drying time
After it rains, the air is very humid and cold, with a high moisture content. Therefore, when drying the walls, the drying time on rainy days should be one to two times longer than usual; it is crucial not to calculate based on the regular drying time.
2. Substrate treatment
The putty powder and wall lining on the wall need to be aired for a day during rainy weather. If this substrate treatment is not done well, issues such as bubbling and cracking will quickly occur after the paint is applied.
3. Drying time
The normal drying time for walls is over 2 hours. If it is rainy or foggy, the drying time needs to be extended based on the weather conditions, and construction should only proceed after the wall has naturally dried.
4. Delayed construction time
Generally, the wall temperature should be around 5°C, and the relative humidity should not exceed 80%. Construction can proceed when the wall's environmental humidity is below 10%. In rainy or foggy weather, the environmental humidity in the air is very high, and the wall being wet with excessive moisture can lead to issues such as bubbling and efflorescence.
Correct construction posture for wall faux stone coatings
1. Substrate treatment: Manually remove the old peeling paint, then roll on an exterior wall primer, apply a coarse base putty, and simultaneously attach an alkali-resistant mesh. After that, apply a fine putty, sand and polish, and maintain it. The surface of the base layer should be smooth and dry (the mixed mortar surface should be maintained for about 15 days), free of dust, tar, and other contaminants, with pH < 10 and moisture content < 10%.
2. Draw dividing lines: According to the decoration requirements, use cement slurry or transparent tape to cut the reference surface into the desired pattern (each divided area should not exceed 1.5㎡).
3. Sealing treatment: Ensure partial wall protection measures are in place, and evenly spray a coat of alkali-resistant primer to seal the base coating, applying painter's tape for detail protection.
4. Spray a coat of colored base coating (intermediate paint): When spraying the wall, the order of application should be done sequentially.
5. Spray the first coat of faux stone coating material (colored texture): It should be thoroughly mixed before use. If it is not very thick, do not add water or minimize water addition to prevent leaking. After the coating film dries, sand down any small bumps and rough brush marks on the wall and clean it thoroughly.
6. Spray the second coat of faux stone coating material (colored texture): The usage requirements are the same as the first coat, and remove the painter's tape and other protective measures.
7. Spray elastic coating: This can be done after the faux stone coating material has dried (generally within 24-48 hours), and can be applied by spraying or rolling.
