The "National Conference on Corrosion Electrochemistry and Testing Methods" was held.
Every year, the losses caused by corrosion in our country are even greater than those caused by natural disasters. Corrosion prevention has become an unavoidable issue in many fields and major projects such as spacecraft, cross-sea bridges, the West-to-East Gas Transmission Project, and deep-sea space stations.
On July 22-23, over 200 experts, scholars, and representatives from more than 70 units in the field of material corrosion and protection gathered at the Key Laboratory of Lightweight Materials and Surface Technology of Harbin Engineering University to hold the National Academic Conference on Corrosion Electrochemistry and Testing Methods. Representatives exchanged and discussed hot topics in the field of corrosion and protection technology research and development, demonstration applications, and public services, focusing on the theme of "The Development and Application of Corrosion Electrochemistry in the New Era."
Professor Li Xiaogang, Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Corrosion and Protection and a professor at Beijing University of Science and Technology, stated at the opening ceremony of the conference: "The losses caused by corrosion in our country reach up to 2 trillion RMB each year, which is more than the losses caused by natural disasters. However, this has also prompted our country to form a corrosion protection market worth 600 billion RMB." Vice President of Harbin Engineering University, Xia Guihua, said in his opening speech: "Corrosion prevention is an important strategic development direction for our school. We hope to work with experts to develop and strengthen the discipline of corrosion and protection, enhancing its international influence."
This conference discussed three thematic sections: "Material Corrosion and Protection in Marine Environments," "New Anti-Corrosion Coating Technologies," and "Corrosion Monitoring and Detection Technologies in the Petroleum and Electric Power Industries." Experts at the conference also engaged in in-depth exchanges on nearly 20 hot topics related to material corrosion, including the development of green corrosion inhibitors, corrosion in the marine atmospheric environment of the Xisha Islands, corrosion of reinforced concrete, stress corrosion cracking, deep-sea environmental corrosion, heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings, corrosion of oil pipelines, corrosion in nuclear power environments, erosion corrosion, magnesium alloy anti-corrosion technology, and corrosion protection in electromagnetic environments.
