Predictions for the Future Development Trends of Furniture Coatings
Coatings, as an important raw material in the furniture industry, have seen many furniture paint companies showcasing their latest products and technologies at various furniture exhibitions. Based on the information gathered from these exhibitions, it is believed that the development of furniture paint has the following trends.
1. Environmental Protection
At the furniture exhibition, the coatings companies mainly showcased three types of furniture paint: PU paint, UV paint, and water-based paint. Currently, the concept of low carbon and environmental protection is prevalent, and the furniture industry and the furniture paint industry are no exception. As an important raw material in the furniture industry, the quality of furniture paint directly affects the low carbon and environmental protection level of the furniture industry. In China's furniture industry, exported furniture accounts for a large proportion, and the United States, the European Union, and Japan have already introduced regulations to restrict and prohibit the use of solvent-based wood coatings, which also compels Chinese furniture companies to focus on furniture environmental protection.
Although there are currently no explicit regulations in China prohibiting the use of solvent-based coatings, with the continuous development of technology and the enhancement of environmental protection concepts, solvent-based coatings will gradually be replaced by more environmentally friendly products. In the domestic furniture paint market, PU paint still occupies the main position, and its environmental protection technology is also continuously improving; however, as a solvent-based coating, it will eventually fade away. The fastest developing in domestic furniture paint is UV light-curable coatings, which are already showing a trend of surpassing PU. Currently, domestic UV coatings can almost achieve solvent-free spraying, that is, 100% solid content spraying. Although the market share of water-based paint in the domestic furniture paint market is still very low, its safety and environmental protection are the trends for the future development of furniture paint, and with continuous technological development, the market share of water-based furniture paint will continue to rise.
2. Coating Effectiveness
At the coating exhibition booths of the Pearl River Delta series furniture exhibitions, the display of coating effects has become a highlight of the exhibition, and "paint buckets" are no longer the main focus. Some coating companies have showcased only finished furniture products at their booths; it is understood that to demonstrate the coating effects of their products, some coating companies directly used finished furniture from downstream customers for display at their booths. China Resources Paint stated in an interview that coating manufacturers should pay attention to the role of furniture paint in furniture design.
3. Integrated Coating Solutions
The products provided by coating companies are no longer limited to the coatings themselves. The most important factor for furniture manufacturers when choosing coatings is the effect after application, and the coating effect depends not only on the quality of the coatings but also significantly on the coating equipment and technology. Coating companies are continuously improving the quality of their coating products while also enhancing coating technology.
